Our desire is that people will know God as their heavenly Father through the saving work of Jesus and be secure in their identity as a child of God. This is important because -
Jesus made this possible: It was through the death and resurrection of Jesus that we might know the grace, love and forgiveness that God lavishes upon us when we choose to follow Him.
God meets us where we are at: Just because we have done wrong at times doesn't disqualify us from being accepted by God.
Obedience doesn't result in love: God loved us first and nothing that we can do will make Him love us any more or any less. Our obedience to God is in repsonse to this amazing love out of gratitude and a desire to please Him.
Strong identity brings security: In an image conscious society, it is easy to be swayed by popular opinion. A secure identity as a follower of Jesus will enable us to stand firm in our faith.
